22 Rimfire

22 Rimfire rifles are the greatest thing, when you can find ammo.  The great rimfire ammo drought of 2013-2015 on has made them a little less attractive.  But what ever type of rifle shooting your enjoy, some one is building a 22 rifle than will temp you.

Again, the Schuetzen shooters were some of the first to use the cartridge in their indoor gallery competitions.  Between the wars saw a rise in the use of rifles for outdoor competition, including match a Camp Perry.  Today matches are designed and adapted specifically for 22 shooters.

I also like the fact that almost every major manufacture builds a 22 rifle.  So there is a lot of variety available with some at very reasonable prices.  Of course, a custom builder will build a rifle that cost every bit as much or more than their center fire rifle.s

One of my favorite bolt action rifles of all time is the Winchester 52.  In subsequent posts,  I will cover the way this design has been adapted over the years from a very basic rifle to one that can compete in any modern rifle match.  There are many other fine bolt actions 22s, but none has been around and remained a valued rifle for collectors and shooter.

A good starting place for all things rimfire is the appropriately named Rimfire Central.
